Even if I wrote articles for different magazines (offline and online), I never wrote about my experience and how to think, from what angle to see SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
If you were Google, you would make a how-to plan, but before that, you would ask yourself some questions.
What is important? What is a good website?
Simple in the code, a lot of user-useful information, good titles, descriptions, markups, and speed. So they had an idea - let's adopt some web recommendations so our engine can crawl easier.

Website must be easy to crawl
Indeed. Google developed serious engine which can crawl and understand a lot of complicated stuff some site have, but not everything. If Google's engine doesn't understand your website it will not show it in the first place of the search results.
Keep it simple if you don't have to make a complicated website. No inline styles, no super-advanced effects which are not readable by Google's engine. Use HTML & CSS, keep the ratio of text to code as bigger as you can. Keep it on reliable servers where there is no black or spam websites and install certified Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
Think about the user who visits the website
There is no much drama here but many failed. User must feel cozy, website with good speed, navigation must be easy to use, interface logical. Today they are speaking about Google's wish to rank design but I personally think it is for manual results. Yandex is setting up manual dozens of websites so when you are searching first few pages are manually done.
So, brand your company as much as you can, think about customer service to be as good as it can be. A satisfied customer is a happy customer. Usually, when I see a happy customer, I ask him for a genuine comment or to do something back. I'll make sure later to send him a discount and to thank him again.

Backlinks, BERT and branding
Backlinks are good but we all know that most of the SEO Managers are buying them, even Google sad it is forbidden and punishable.
BERT is simply sad: artificial intelligence. It crawls the internet, and literary understanding does user write about your company in a bad or a good manner. It is already employed. You may buy/build links, but Google will know how good a company is.
